Strengths-based approaches focus on the inherent strengths of individuals, families, groups and organizations. This approach stands in contrast to looking at what is not working to a focus an asset-based approach where the goal is to promote and build on the positive to support empowerment and development.
In this one day course we will look at both the appeal and philosophy of strength based approaches. We will explore Appreciative Inquiry (AI) and SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations and Results) processes that are strength based approaches to strategic planning. In addition we will examine strength based approaches to performance enhancement from spontaneous positive feedback, strength based coaching to formal appraisal systems (i.e. SDI –Strengths Deployment Inventory and Strengths Finder).
